British Airways resume A380 flights with further plans in the near future

                            By Tom Box, Journalist

On Monday 8th November, British Airways bought their A380s back into operation after 18 months. At 07:53, G-XLEF spooled up her four Trent engines to depart to Frankfurt – marking the end of a grounding that began in early 2020.

This comes after the flag carrier announced that they were bringing their Airbus A380s back in late April 2021, and more recently, both Qantas and Singapore Airlines announced the reintroduction of operations.

The return to service will be operating short haul routes, similar to that of an introduction of a new plane, for the rest of the next month through rotation flights between Heathrow, Frankfurt, and Madrid-Barajas while the crew redevelop familiarity with the aircraft.

Although, in December, things will be scaled-up. British Airways will be allowing the jumbo-jets to stretch their legs by adding Dubai, Miami, and Los Angeles to the schedule. In January, Johannesburg is set to be added to the list. However, with COVID cases on the rise in the UK and countries both removing and adding foreign states from their red lists, we will have to keep our ears to the ground. We can hope though, we can hope.
